Families in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania drive two to three hours each way to receive treatment.
The costs associated with travel to and from cancer treatment can be a major barrier to receiving the best care possible. The burden of travel in West Virginia and Pennsylvania is even more difficult because many rural areas have no public transportation, not even a bus system.
In fact, the average family drives two to three hours each way to receive treatment. When you consider that one cycle of chemotherapy is typically given once a week or for several days, then rest for several days or weeks, the journey can seem like an uphill battle.
Walking Miracles Family Foundation provides each family and survivor up to $500 in travel assistance. This card can be used for gas, lodging, and food expenses associated with travel to and from cancer treatment in or out of West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania.
Families and survivors can apply with our nurse navigator twice a year for a $250 travel assistance card until they reach the total of $500 to talk with her and to fill out the application here. They can apply every year while in treatment and also during survivorship for follow-up appointments.
Our LNX tablet program assists family and survivors to keep connected to valuable resources/services such as:

Going through chemo and radiation is exhausting. Having had 8 years, I understand those feelings.
Not only are we tired physically, but emotionally too. I was always anxious about getting sick and had pockets full of Wintergreen life savers.
There is nothing worse the ruining your clothes during chemo and not having an extra outfit to wear. That's why we created the Walking Miracles Family Foundation port shirt.
Our shirt was created for this in mind. The shirt is dry fit material and special zippers were hand sewn in them to make it easier for for to access your port without the embarrassment of disrobing.
Our specially designed port shirts provide easy access for medical procedures while maintaining comfort and dignity during treatment.
Features:
• Dry-fit material for comfort
• Hand-sewn special zippers
• Easy port access design
• Maintains dignity during treatment
