The primary objective of the Walking Miracles.Org is to provide Cancer Survivor Navigators to do the tedious gathering of information and resources you need to have so you can make your treatment seamless and stress free. Our job is to take the complex heath care system and paperwork and help simplify it so it makes sense. Our focus is to help reduce the mortality rate for cancer patients living in West Virginia by providing outreach support services and education so people in our communities can understand why they need screenings, how it benefits them and their health, and to walk them through the process. We need to get cancer detected as early as possible. WV has one of the highest cancer rates and sometimes it is in the advanced stages or has already spread by the time of diagnosis, so the chances of the treatment being effective is not as great as if we had caught it earlier. We want to help remove common barriers to care in WV so you can get to your appointments, there should be no excuses why  you can't get treated, we want you to have a better quality of life. Once cancer is detected our patients will be provided face-to-face services through “patient navigation” to include: 

Survivorship   Patient   Navigation   Services (SPNS) these include:


  • Financial   Navigator, Eliminating   Financial Problems: At the point of an abnormal finding or cancer diagnosis, the financial navigator will meet with each patient to determine financial needs and work to obtain some method of financial coverage for any diagnostic procedure or treatment and help determine insurance issues to see if the patient in insured, uninsured or underinsured and also work with bill and medication costs.

 

  • Outreach Navigator, Access to Early Detection: The outreach navigator will promote cancer screenings while meeting people in the community and explain the importance of getting them and its impact on the treatment process and connects them to a cancer service center in their area and makes the appointment and follows up with them and offers to go to the appointment with them 


  • Psychosocial Navigation,  Psychosocial Issues:

These will be address by having in house two counselors: a licensed practicing counselor, and a master's level counselor. These professionals will help with the mental health issues associated with the disease. Some common diagnoses commonly associated with cancer treatment are anxiety and depression but there are several other diagnosis and issues that arise during diagnosis and treatment such as communication, financial, employment, family unit, loss of control in your life etc. Helping patients by assigning them a counselor to help with mental health issues at the time of diagnosis of treatment is so important due to the mind body affect it has during treatment and could help increase the outcome and the quality of life for the patient and their family members by helping reduce the stress the body is under already with the treatment of chemotherapy and possible radiation if it is combined.


  • Survivorship Navigator Helps Remove Long Term Barriers: The survivorship navigator will provide education and resources and connect survivors and families to resource liaisons with affiliate partners to help them through their journey and make referrals to long term clinics to follow long term treatment effects, psychosocial issues and any other concerns.


We are here to help everyone who gets treated  for cancer today no matter what kind or stage of cancer they have to let them know they are Survivors Through the Continuum and Beyond and the faster cancer is detected the better the chances you have.
